Runa Majumdar did her PhD on the interrelationship of Tagore’s songs and the Upanishads from Rabindra Bharati University. She was trained in Tagorean music under Maya Sen for twenty-eight years ( 1984 – 2012). She learnt Indian classical music under Kalyani Sikdar and Pandit Nihar Ranjan Bandyopadhyay. She did a Music Appreciation Course under Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty. Presently from Shrimati Alpana Roy, she is learning the ragas of the original songs that several of the Tagorean tappas, dhrupads, khayals, thumris and dhamars stem from. She used to learn songs of the Tagore family from Shri Prabir Ghosh of Indira Shilpigoshthi.
Her present project is to create a reference archive of Tagorean songs based on tappa, khayal and dhrupad for teachers and students of either of the Bengals of both her contemporary times and the future. For this purpose she has established Kalyani Rabindrasangeet Charchakendra.
She has been a regular artiste of Rabindrasangeet at Akashvani since 1989.
