The Unit for Strengthening Cause of Death Data (USCODD) is based at the Centre for Cancer Epidemiology at Tata Memorial Centre in Mumbai, India. The vision of the USCODD is to support, promote, and advocate for best practices in improving quality of cause of death data.
To achieve this vision, the USCODD has established the following goals:
o To develop resources on cause of death improvement activities that can be used to guide engagement with government and non-governmental agencies or can be used independently by agencies to support their efforts
o To build capacity in improving cause of death activities in India and the Asia Pacific region. The activities will include training & education in writing medical certification of cause of death, mortality coding (ICD 10 and ICD 11), implementation of automated software (Iris) in coding, and production of vital statistics reports, etc.
o To catalyze improvement in cause of death quality standards through advocacy efforts
