This group was started at the South African National Bioinformatics Institute (SANBI), in order to facilitate Biologists in their transition to become Bioinformaticians. Initially we were a group of females who wanted to create a safe space where we could implement what we've learnt. It has since expanded to reach many African countries, as well as some European. Some males joined and later even a statistician came on board.
