338 Hunting - Tararua Ranges - New Zealand - November 2024

On this hunt we see several red deer in the southern Tararua Ranges and manage to shoot a deer at 500 yards.

During the hunt we had another hunter moving through dense undergrowth to where we were glassing from. It was good to meet up with a stranger and share the remainder of the afternoon finding deer. The following day we teamed up to search for the deer and share the meat from the hunt.

On this trip we deploy with the 338 Lapua Magnum, running Hornady Match 285 grain ELD Match.

The 338 Lap Mag has a good amount of recoil and it is important to try to manage this. Not always easy in the bush where your shooting position can be less than ideal, but it is up to the shooter to manage this.
