Lee Falk created two significant proto-superheroes, Mandrake the Magician and the Phantom, who predate Superman and influenced later heroes like Dr. Strange and Batman. Falk’s Phantom, introduced in 1936, combined romance, humor, and suspense, while using symbolism, superstition, and disguises to instill fear in his enemies, much like Batman would later do. Falk’s witty dialogue, memorable characters, and groundbreaking storytelling established him as a key figure in the history of comics.
