Fast Intro to Whistle Keys (see description)

Описание к видео Fast Intro to Whistle Keys (see description)

Do you have a high D whistle? Are you wondering what happens when you change keys? Look no further!

In this video, I feature a Carbony high D, Bb (wide bore), alto G, and low D.

Note: Some of this information is greatly simplified, particularly when talking about what key the tunes are in. My intent was to give beginners a good starting point, but if you want to start learning about modes (I.e. Dorian, Mixolydian, etc.), that's a video I am not yet equipped to make.

Additional note about "A" whistles:
In the video, I say it can be trickier to play along with tracks on an A whistle. This isn't strictly true. It depends on the tune. Some fiddlers like to play tunes that CAN be played on a D whistle, but what they're playing goes below the range of a standard D whistle. In this case, it can be really useful to have an A whistle, which can play in D, starting at XXX OOO (just like a D whistle can play in G), but gives you access to those lower notes down to A. For an example, try to follow along with this video on a D whistle and you'll see how you run out of low notes:    • Life Is All Checkered / The Lark's March
Switch to an A whistle, and the tune fits just fine (with different fingerings, of course).
