The song is about looking for the lion in your heart, being strong and courageous like a lion (or a lioness,), getting people to identify with lions, or at least identify positive messages with lions.

The African lion is probably the most famous big cat in the world. It has been used throughout history to symbolize strength, courage, pride and victory. They have been the subjects of fascination to us for thousands of years. Lions were once found on three continents but have since disappeared from 94 percent of their historic range.
Now fewer than 25,000 wild lions are estimated to remain in Africa.
