Morning Show with Mary Jacobsen June 27th, 2024 Lilly Dissette

Mary Jacobsen speaks with Lilly Dissette, a Newburyport High School alum who just graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a double major in Chinese and International Relations about her recently completed year long study abroad program in Taipei, Taiwan.

Dissette talks about her reasons for studying in Taiwan, as well as what she learned about its form of government and its relationship with China, and her observations about the culture, people, and issues that impact life there.

Dissette also discusses what she learned about Americans’ biggest misconceptions about Taiwan, and how media outlets influence different regions’ perceptions of others. For example, she’ll explain how Western journalists’ coverage of Taiwan is often skewed by their never having actually visited the nation.
