Preview of a Holmegaard Longbow

Описание к видео Preview of a Holmegaard Longbow

Hey Guys.

Welcome to the preview of my latest iteration, of the Holmegaard longbow.

This specific piece, is an 80 inch version, going to Germany upon finalization of the final review.

For those unfamiliar with the Holmegaard bow, it is the oldest found bow in history. It's an elm flatbow, with a crowned back, and flat belly. The shape comes from the nature of the stave, which is an elm sapling about 3 inches thick.

The bows from the stoneagw were thought to be the full height of the archer. The recipient og this bow, is tall and has a drawlength of 32 inches. This was the determining factor, when making the bow.

This particular bow draws about 45 pounds, at 32 inches draw. This is according to specifications from the recipient.
The measurements of the original Holmegaard bow, found in Holmegaard bog, suggest that bows were about 60-70 pounds at 28 inches.
Since stoneage humens were not very tall, the original bow is only about 165cm (65 inches).

The original Holmegaard can be seen in the Danish natural history museum.

Hope you enjoyed this preview, and I look forward to showing the full review.

Stay tuned.
