This is a deeply moving true incident from the time of the 1947 Partition, based on a letter that was read to the congregation by the president of our Gurdwara, Sardar Babu Singh Ji (IPS).

Barkat Ali Shah, who was a police constable in Bathinda and later migrated to Pakistan, wrote a letter describing the most terrifying moments of his life. On the night of 14 August 1947, when fires were raging through the city, homes were being looted, and innocent people were being killed, he called upon Guru Gobind Singh Ji for help.

Being a descendant of Pir Budhu Shah, he remembered the historic support his forefathers had given to Guru Sahib and prayed for protection. What happened afterward not only saved the lives of his family, but also reflects the greatness of Sikh history, the spirit of Sarbat da Bhala (welfare of all), and true humanity.
