The Green Book: Driving Through History - Iconic Travel Guide Comes to Pittsburgh

Описание к видео The Green Book: Driving Through History - Iconic Travel Guide Comes to Pittsburgh

From 1936 to 1966, the Green Book was the must-have road companion for African American travelers.

Developed and published by Harlem postal carrier and travel writer Victor Hugo Green, the Book’s listings provided safe havens where Black customers could eat, sleep and fill up their gas tanks in a segregated America.

Discover the story behind the films, photographs and artifacts depicting that historic time in “The Negro Motorist Green Book,” an exhibit currently running at The Senator John Heinz History Center through August 13, 2023. This WQED digital doc also explores Webster Hall, which once served as the Hotel Webster Hall. It's one of the few Green Book landmarks still standing in Pittsburgh.
