My reviews cover indie games that i have bought, had gifted to me and have been provided by developers for review.
In this episode I check out a new Police Tactical shooter on Steam called SWAT Commander. This is the breakout title by small developer Red Mountain Games, and is published by Ritual Interactive, who are working on the upcoming horror survival game Fields Of Fear.

SWAT Commander is inspired by titles like Ready Or Not and the legendary SWAT series, immersing players in the dangerous world of High Profile Policework as you command your very own SWAT Team. You'll attend a wide variety of incidents, ranging from robberies, hostage situations, bomb threats and terrorist attacks. Your job is to resolve each incident in the most efficient and safe way possible, identifying and arresting... or neutralizing suspects, rescuing civilians, defusing bombs and gathering evidence. The game current features six levels ranging from shopping centers under siege to abandoned farmsteads full of terrorists and a drug dealers compound.

Players will need to approach each level with careful planning and decisive execution, carefully positioning your squad to breach and clear each section, deploying tools such as battering rams, breaching shotguns and flashbangs to ensure your teams safety and identifying and removing traps and obstacles. You have access to a wide variety of wireless hole punchers, from smgs, rifle and pistols, to less lethal options like beanbag shotguns. Your enemies are numerous and well armed, and careless players who do not use their teams capabilities will quickly find themselves outmatched.

I picked up SWAT Commander as I'm a big fan of Tactical Shooters and Police Games. While I did enjoy my time playing the game, it have some issues. Enemy AI behavior did feel lacking, and the game did suffer from some slowdown during large scale gunfights. So if your looking for alternative to titles like Ready Or Not, just be aware this game does lack some polish. The developers are releasing regular patches for the game and I hope they continue to improve the experience.

Take on the commanding role for an advanced special weapons and tactics team. SWAT Commander places great focus on realism, drawing not only from the rich history of tactical games, but also real-life situations that saw need for this kind of units to intervene.

Your squad members follow your lead, but also actively respond to various situations themselves to effectively combat hostiles and follow police protocol. Make sure you issue the correct orders but also remember that you'll be right there in the middle of the action, performing many tasks yourself!

As a highly-trained operative and member of a key tactical unit, you and your people will be sent on a number of highly dangerous missions.

Become the witness of hostage situations, robberies, gang wars, and many other criminal activities. Complete missions with computer-controlled operatives or with your friends in co-op mode of up to 5 players in total!


Equip your team members with the right gear for the role that you intend for them, whether it's offense, support, or defense.

various headgear for protection from different hazards

Properly equipping your SWAT squad is only the first step. Every situation you and your team end up in requires careful assessment if you want to bring everyone back to headquarters in one piece.

Pay attention to the briefing and study whatever intel you get before you set out to complete the operation.
