3D Animation: How the Borchardt C-93 Pistol works

Описание к видео 3D Animation: How the Borchardt C-93 Pistol works

The Borchardt C-93 was the first mass-produced semi-automatic pistol. It was designed by German firearms inventor Hugo Borchardt (1844–1921) in 1893 based upon the Maxim toggle-bolt design.

3,100 units were produced by German gun manufacturers Loewe and DWM. DWM employed Austrian gun inventor Georg Luger to promote the Borchardt pistol in military channels. The pistol was tested by the U.S. Navy in 1894 and later by the U.S. Army. Although it was accurate, the Borchardt pistol was unwieldy to handle and its recoil was unexpectedly powerful.

Borchardt refused to make any changes to his original design, so DWM appointed Georg Luger to make the requested improvements. Luger's design eventually became the "Luger P08 Parabellum" pistol for which Luger also invented the 9mm cartridge (aka 9x19mm, 9mm Luger or 9mm Parabellum), which today is the most used military pistol cartridge in the world.
