A 52-year-old fugitive with a long criminal history was apprehended after deputies discovered
enough fentanyl to potentially kill over 100,000 people. Adrian Rivers, 52, was stopped by
deputies during a traffic stop at an intersection in Palm Coast. While speaking with the driver, the
deputy said he could smell marijuana inside the white Dodge Charger. Rivers, who was a
passenger in the car, told the deputy he had smoked marijuana about an hour before the stop, but
that he had a medical marijuana card that allowed him to do so. His card was no longer active,
according to a check. Deputies stated that they had probable cause to search the vehicle. During
the search, a deputy discovered the drugs inside a gray backpack lying in the back seat area,
along with business cards bearing Rivers' name. During the investigation, deputies discovered
Rivers was a fugitive with two active warrants in Volusia County for violation of probation for
cocaine possession and an Orange County writ of bodily attachment. FCSO deputies seized 219
grams of fentanyl and 533 grams of marijuana from Rivers' backpack during a traffic stop for a
headlight violation. Rivers' criminal history dates to 1988, with convictions for grand theft auto,
forgery, selling cocaine, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, burglary, and fleeing and
