Everyone knows lions are one of earth’s most dangerous creatures. Lions are agile, fast and have sharp teeth and claws. Did you know lions are just big cats? Most cats hunt alone but lions work together to catch their prey. A group of lions is called a pride, and the females are the hunters. Cubs spend hours play-fighting. This helps them to practice the skills they will need to catch and kill prey when they are older. Have you ever watched the movie The Lion king? Then this might come as a surprise, The name for lion in Swahili, an African language, is Simba. A lion weighs between 265 to 420 pounds. Lions can eat up to 40kg of meat in a single meal - around a quarter of their body weight. Their tongues have sharp-pointed rasps, called papillae, which are used to scrape meat off the bones. Lions do most of their hunting at night as their eyes have adapted to the dark and this gives them a huge advantage over their prey. They hunt more during storms as the noise and wind make it harder for prey to see and hear them. When hunting each lion has a specific role. There are two main roles, centre and wing. The wings chase the prey to the centres who capture it. You definitely should stay away from this dangerous creature.
