We were delighted to film Austrian champion Karl Wendlinger aboard the Mercedes-Benz AMG 300 SEL 6.8 "Rote Sau" during the Legends Grand Prix event at the Salzburgring. We thank Ralf Sporr of AMG Classic for his kindness and availability. It was an honour to film Karl Wendlinger, a driver I have always admired, on board. To give you an idea of ​​who we're talking about, he won the Austrian and German Formula 3 Championships in 1989, won the FIA ​​GT Championship in 1999 with Team Oreca and teammate Olivier Beretta, took two GTS class victories (in 1999 and 2000) at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, won the overall victory in 2000 at the 24 Hours of Daytona, and let's not forget, he raced in 41 Formula 1 Grands Prix between 1991 and 1995 with the Leyton House, March, and Sauber teams. For the Legends Grand Prix event, he drove a perfectly rebuilt car, starting from an original body, from the legendary "Rote Sauber." This large sedan, also known as the "Red Sow" due to its enormous size, achieved a surprising second place overall and class victory at the 1971 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps with drivers Clemens Schickentanz and Hans Heyer. This unexpected result catapulted the fledgling tuning company AMG (founded by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher) onto the international motorsport scene. Under the hood is the 6.8-litre M100 V8 engine, which develops approximately 428 hp (315 kW) and 620 Nm of torque, capable of propelling it up to 265 km/h. The AMG-developed Rote Sau is significantly more powerful than the road-going 300 SEL 6.3 model (which had approximately 250 hp and a 6.3-litre displacement). The transmission is a ZF 5-speed manual. The car weighs 1,635 kg and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. To reduce weight, the original bumpers were removed, and all the glass, including the windshield, was replaced with plexiglass. The front doors were made of aluminium. Despite this, the car retained some of its luxurious interior, including the rear seats and the wood-trimmed dashboard. Personalmente è stato un onore poter filmare l'onboard di Karl Wendlinger, un pilota che ho sempre ammirato. Giusto per darvi un'idea di chi stiamo parlando, è stato vincitore del Campionato Austriaco e Tedesco di Formula 3 nel 1989, si è aggiudicato il campionato FIA GT del nel 1999 con il Team Oreca ed il compagno Olivier Beretta, due vittorie di classe GTS (nel 1999 e 2000) alla 24h di Le Mans, Vittoria assoluta nel 2000 alla 24h di Daytona e non dimentichiamoci, ha corso 41 Gran Premi di Formula 1 tra il 1991 e il 1995 con i team Leyton House, March e Sauber. Per l'evento Legends Grand Prix ha guidato una vettura perfettamente ricostruita, partendo da una carrozzeria originale, della leggendaria "Rote Sau". Questa grande berlina, conosciuta anche con il soprannome di "Scrofa Rossa", viste le sue enormi dimensioni, all'epoca ottenne un sorprendente secondo posto assoluto e la vittoria di classe alla 24 Ore di Spa-Francorchamps del 1971 con i piloti Clemens Schickentanz e Hans Heyer. Questo risultato inaspettato catapultò la neonata azienda di tuning AMG (fondata da Hans Werner Aufrecht ed Erhard Melcher) sulla scena motoristica internazionale. Sotto il cofano anteriore troviamo il motore M100 V8 da 6,8 litri che sviluppa circa 428 hp (315 kW) e una coppia di 620 Nm, capace di spingerla fino a 265 km/h.
