Area law enforcement initiated an idea from the Crow Wing County Passenger Safety Coalition to educate the public on the dangers of texting and driving. Part of the project includes law enforcement officers, including police officers from Brainerd, Baxter, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes and Crosby, the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol working together patrolling areas focusing on motorists using their electronic devices while driving.
In the past 18 months, law enforcement conducted five saturation activities where officers focus on finding drivers using their electronic devices illegally. On Thursday, 11 officers conducted a saturation from 12:30-3:30 p.m. on Washington Street and South Sixth Street in Brainerd. State patrol sent four troopers, Crow Wing County sent one deputy, Baxter and Brainerd sent two officers each and Pequot Lakes and Crosby each had one officer on patrol.
