After our trip to the Serengeti, we drove to Ngorongoro National Reserve, an area named after the Ngorongoro Crater. We spent a entire day in Ngorongoro Crater. The entire crater is about two thousand meters above sea level and about 16 to 19 kilometers in diameter, forming a nature reserve covering an area of more than 260 square kilometers. The crater is the largest basin in the world that is not entirely covered by water. The basin has a unique natural environment and ecology. Almost all wild animals except giraffes live in the crater. It is said that this is because the mountains on the edge of the volcano are too steep, so giraffes cannot migrate in. That night we stayed at a lodge on the top of the mountain next to the crater.
