NASAs OSIRIS REx mission marks a milestone for the agency as it aims to bring samples from an actual asteroid. Launched in September 2016 this ambitious project focuses on the study of Bennu, an asteroid located near Earth. In October 2020 the spacecraft successfully touched down on Bennus surface. Collected around 250 grams of its material. After two years and four months of exploration the spacecraft is now approaching its point of departure. The mission is expected to reach its climax on September 24 2023 when a capsule containing the samples from Bennu will make its landing, in Utah's West Desert.
