This video is the first in a series brought to you by the NY Vaccine Literacy Campaign, a community outreach and engagement initiative at the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health & Health Policy. These short and shareable videos feature local elected officials as well as community organizers discussing their perspectives on vaccination and preventative community health. Additional videos will confront barriers to community health equity and share these experts’ views on important solutions. In this video Harlem community organizers share their thoughts and decision-making process about getting the COVID-19 vaccine. Featured in this video are two esteemed leaders:

Dr. Malcom Punter -- President & CEO, Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement, Inc. (HCCI, https://www.hcci.org/)
Dr. Punter provides day to day oversight for all aspects of HCCI and manages the financial and operational sustainability of over $550 million in real estate assets and a myriad of social service programs. Dr. Punter drives the affordable housing initiatives of HCCI which currently has several new construction projects in production including 135 units of senior housing, 250 cooperative homeownership units, and affordable rental housing preservation and new construction deals in New York, New Jersey, and Georgia. Dr. Punter advises churches, mosques and other faith-based organizations on the development of their real estate assets to prevent predatory investors from taking advantage of their inexperience in the process.

Carol Johnson -- Disaster Liaison, East Harlem Community Organizations Active in Disasters (EH COAD, https://www.eastharlemcoad.org/)
Ms. Johnson is a long-time Harlem community organizer and leader in outreach and response. As a founding member of EH COAD, Carol works to make East Harlem a better prepared and safer community through rapid communication, coordination, identification, and distribution of resources during public health emergencies. She worked closely with city agencies and local community organizations to ensure COVID-19 response resources were distributed in East Harlem. She is a leader driving the development of tools to empower community members to be prepared to respond to emergencies such as "go bag" trainings and comprehensive toolkits.
