An introduction to the day’s proceedings and a summary of the activity that has happened within the group over the past year.

Welcome to our sixth annual BuiltIntelligence NEC People conference which has grown from our highly successful LinkedIn group. We are back again at K&L Gates offices which if this is your first visit to our conference I am sure you will be highly impressed with. A special thanks to our seven key sponsors, who continue to make this event possible (and free to all attendees). One of our group members recently told me that he regularly references our group as a demonstration to the “power of social media”. We have grown a group that not only includes over 4800 active users, but also host the resultant “must attend event” of the year for those using NEC3 contracts. We wanted to set up a conference event specifically for senior people from the industry can attend and learn something from, and we trust like others before you that this will be your experience too.

The LinkedIn group has grown in size, depth and quality of discussions. This past year we have seen an increasing amount of excellent discussions within the group, with some project teams even posting their issues/areas of disputes into the group and seeing what advice/answers they get from the experts within it (much cheaper than adjudication!). The group remains the best example I have seen of quality discussions which is self-managed and “policed” by all of the users and experts within it. Everyone is very constructive and informative making it a really important resource to the industry. The result is a group containing a wealth of information that users can learn from, and an environment where they can raise their own issues within and enjoy the resultant answers/discussions that ensue. I ask members to continue to use the group even more than they currently do, and recommend the group to others if you agree it is a valuable commodity and source of information for those within it.
