After dermatologists challenged the qualifications of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (OMFS) for performing aesthetic and hair transplant surgeries, the OMFS Association filed an intervention application in the Bombay High Court. They argued that hair transplant surgeries are less complex compared to their typical procedures and that only OMFS, not general dentists, are authorized to perform such surgeries, as per guidelines issued by the Dental Council of India in 2012 and 2022
