A National Festival of Performing Arts

The ARTery, a Chennai-based arts portal & culture magazine is hosting a four-day national festival of performing arts in association with Hamsadhwani, a popular sabha. Titled SVATANTRA as it falls during the week of Independence Day, the festival is billed as a celebration of creative freedom! The festival will be held at Youth Hostel, II Avenue, Indira Nagar, Chennai between August 12th and 15th. "The uniqueness of this event is that it aims to bring together diverse Indian performing art forms such as classical music, jugalbandi, dance, vernacular theatre and contemporary music", says Ramanathan Iyer, promoter of The ARTery. The special feature of this year's fest is that it is dedicated to children from underprivileged backgrounds, special needs and disabilities, in line with the charitable goals of eminent Carnatic vocalist Dr. S. Sowmya's Sukrtam Foundation. The foundation will be the beneficiary of all proceeds and donations from the event, to be utilized for charitable works round the year.
