Saving the Bees - wildflower meadow

Описание к видео Saving the Bees - wildflower meadow

Wild flowers are unable to compete with fertile grassland. Mowing reduces the nutrients of the soil and introducing yellow rattle, a semi-parasitic wild flower which feeds off the grass, allows meadow flowers to take.
In the UK we have only 3% of the wild flower meadows that we had in the 1930s, which has a considerable impact upon the number of bees, butterflies, dragonflies, hoverflies, and other beneficial insects that are a part of the ecosystem.
Over the past 3 years I have been working to create wild meadow patches on my land, and now the flowers are finally beginning to establish themselves.
Flowers that are currently emerging on the field include: yellow rattle, ragged robin, oxeye daisy, lady’s bedstraw, wild marjoram, black knapweed, yarrow, fox and cubs, selfheal, meadow crane’s bill, buttercups, meadow cress, bird’s foot trefoil, creeping speedwell, vetch, plantain, clovers and St John's wort.
