Ice harvesting in Maine goes back generations, used by fishermen, farmers and regular people as a substitute for powered refrigeration. But how is ice harvested and stored? To find out, Baratunde visits The Thompson Ice House in South Bristol, Maine. It's a way of life that faces pressure from rising temperatures which can impact how thick the ice is, and how long it can be stored. The Ice House was recognized by the National Historic Register in 1974, and is thought to be the only commercial ice house on the register to continue to store harvested ice in the traditional method.
