The iPod was one of Apple's most successful products as it accelerated Apple out of a rough 1990s. Apple cleverly maximized on this success by building out the product line by launching various iPod models like the iPod shuffle, nano, and the touch. Though most of these were successful in their own right, the iPod model that stands out by far is the iPod touch. In the early 2010s, the iPod touch was extremely popular as it was essentially a cheap substitute for the iPhone. Though it couldn't make calls or send SMS, it could basically do everything else that an iPhone could. However, over the past several years, the iPod touch has faded out of the light, and it's quite uncommon to see someone using one in public.
