This video was taken in Las Vegas at an ARC Aphasia Recovery Connection June Bash. Mark Ittleman, M.S., was invited to give a presentation to the membership and to conduct small meetings of up to 5 participants with caregivers and those with aphasia. In this video the concept of speaking speed is emphasized by the person with aphasia. Speech rate will have a great deal to do with comprehension or understanding and expression of language with those who have aphasia. Mark Ittleman is an author and senior speech language pathologist who has practiced speech language pathology for over 40 years and has recently written a book to help caregivers, mates, friends or loved ones to be exceptional speech models to those with aphasia. Mark teaches the caregivers to speak slowly for maximum understanding and comprehension by those with aphasia. A slower speech "model" often helps the individual with aphasia speak more slowly and accurately.
