Rio de Janeiro is Brazil's largest sea side city, but the entire state of Rio boasts beautiful beach towns that sit on amazingly blue water.

Two hours north of the city you'll find Búzios. Go to Rio to be an international tourist and go to Búzios to be like a Brazilian traveling in their own country. (;

Unlike the large and crowded beaches in Rio, Búzios has 23 beaches that make the beach town a peninsula. With a large selection, many are totally secluded and can be enjoyed peacefully. The peninsula can also be driven around in less than an hour with amazing views of the ocean at every stop and turn.

If you're not at one of the beaches or driving through the peninsula then you'll probably find yourself in the historic commercial district, Rua das Pedras. This zone of the city STAYS beautiful at all time. During the day it's filled with fisherman and boats entering and exiting the harbor. Come in the evening and witness a spectacular sunset, restaurants filling up, and a totally different vibe.
