Collecting every weapon and item in Cave Story with glitches, in

Cave Story is 15 years old now! To celebrate the occasion, I decided to do a run that showcases (almost) all of what the game has to offer. In the process, I also completely and shamelessly break Nicalis's latest rendition of this classic game.

This speedrun has the following features:
• Collects all Life Capsules and missile chests (from their source)
• Collects EVERY (!!) weapon in the game (although I lose the Polar Star, Fireball, and regular Missile Launcher in the process)
• Collects every single item in the game (including both Boosters (!!)), except for the Turbocharge and Whimsical Star. (Unfortunately, there's no way to use the drowning glitch to obtain any of Chaba's items.)
I also decided to max out my HP capacity (232 is as high as the game lets you go), not because I made that a rule for myself but just because I felt like doing it. I could have also gotten unlimited missile expansions, but I didn't feel like doing that. :P

The run itself has its ups and downs (mostly downs tbh :3). You can see me really struggling to juggle between my 7 weapons at the end, but at least I somehow still managed to get a sub-3 Hell, so I'm happy with that :)
In any case, my main purpose in doing this run was to showcase some of what the Core Escape drowning glitch lets you do in the Switch version. For a full comprehensive list of what you can do with this glitch, see this: https://www.speedrun.com/cave_story_p...

Q&A:

Q: What is this voodoo magic??!?
A: Read this: https://www.speedrun.com/cave_story_p...

And finally read this: https://www.speedrun.com/cave_story_p...

Q: Why are you playing on original graphics?
A: For some reason, the block in the jail that's supposed to stop you from entering/exiting doesn't have collision when original graphics are turned on. I don't know why this happens, but it saves me from having to talk to Mahin to break out of jail so it's a few seconds faster. There's no other difference that I know of between original vs. remastered graphics.

Q: Why are you playing with Famitracks music?
A: Why not?

Q: Why did you talk to Momorin after finishing the rocket? You still had the Booster v2.0!
A: Unfortunately, I have to lose the Mimiga Mask before talking to Curly in the Plantation, otherwise the Cthulhu won't tell me about Ma Pignon and I won't be able to fight that boss. I also can't do the rocket quest after saving Curly, because I have to ditch the Booster v0.8 before returning to the Core to save Curly, otherwise she won't appear at all in the Plantation, even if I drain the water from her and carry her out of the Waterway. (The end of the Ironhead fight checks for the Booster v0.8 and skips setting that flag if you have it.)

Q: Did you really have to replay half of the game in Curly Story to do all of that?
A: Once I've left Dark Place after doing Core Escape, The only way to re-enter is by loading Dark Place on another save file and then doing what I did in the run. I have to re-enter in order to complete the run because I need the Iron Bond to enter Hell (to get the Life Capsule and missile chest in Hell), and I unfortunately can't get an Iron Bond through glitching so I have to get it the intended way by saving Curly.
As for why I used Curly Story in particular, the setup for glitching the Booster v0.8 into my inventory requires me to load Curly Story's Plantation TSC. It also conveniently allows me to warp directly to Assembly Hall after the Core fight, right next to where I can get the Bubbline.

Q: Would it have been faster to keep the Polar Star and trade it for the Snake the first time you enter the Labyrinth, and then obtain the Machine Gun later with glitches?
A: Probably! The main reason I went for the Machine Gun first was because I'm not good at going through Sand Zone without being able to fly. I also really wanted to showcase the +26 infinite life capsule setup, which means I would have had to trek to Labyrinth I anyways. :P
