FLIGHT ATTENDANT LIFE VLOG - My First Trip As A Line Holder!!! I Can't Believe It!

Hello friend! wow! I can't believe I have a line! from being on reserve in Newark/NY, commuting, transferring to Washington, D.C., and now I have a line! I was NOT expecting to get a line anytime soon, as it can sometimes take YEARS to get a line! I am beyond grateful and soaking it all in because you never know if and when you'll be on reserve. (*and yes, you can go back on reserve after getting a line) I hope you enjoy this little snippet of flight attendant life as a junior line holder on a 4-day trip!

HELPFUL VOCABULARY:

Line Holder: a flight attendant awarded a schedule for that month. They know well in advance where they are going, how many days they will be gone, start and end times, etc. Usually, more flexibility to drop, trade, and pick up trips. Many flight attendants' goal is to get a line as this offers more flexibility in their schedule.

Reserve Flight Attendant: a flight attendant who is on call and usually has a 2-4 hour call out to report to the airport. The flight attendant usually does not know where they are going, how many days they will be gone, or start and end times until the last minute. Usually, new hires will be on reserve until their seniority can "hold a line" (or schedule). This can take anywhere from months to even years, depending on the base and the flight attendants' seniority.

Sit: Sitting at an airport waiting for the next flight. Often flight attendants are not paid an hourly wage for these sits. Flight attendants usually use this time to rest, eat food, prepare for the next flight, etc.
