Karnataka Cabinet Approves Internal Reservation Formula for SCs.

The Karnataka Cabinet has approved a new 6:6:5 formula for giving internal reservation to Scheduled Castes (SCs).
According to the decision:
1..SC (Right) communities will get 6% reservation.
2..SC (Left) communities will get 6% reservation.
3..‘Touchable’ Dalit and nomadic communities will get 5% reservation.
This decision comes from the recommendations of the Justice H. N. Nagmohan Das Commission, which gave a 1,766-page report to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah earlier this month. The Cabinet studied the report and made changes before finalizing the 6:6:5 formula.
Recruitment in government jobs had been stopped since October 2024 because the new reservation system was pending. With this formula now cleared, the recruitment process is expected to start again soon.
Law Minister H. K. Patil said the Cabinet meeting was positive and most SC community leaders welcomed the decision. Minister Shivaraj Thangadagi called it a “historic step.”

However, BJP state vice-president N. Mahesh said the formula is not fair to the Holeya and Madiga communities and warned that protests could happen. Some nomadic and very poor communities are also unhappy with the new system.The decision follows a Supreme Court ruling that allowed states to divide SC reservation among different groups so that the most backward castes also get benefits.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will officially announce the decision in the Assembly on Wednesday. After that, it will be implemented in government jobs and schools.
