Serial Binary Multiplier vs Combinational Multiplier:

The Combinational Binary Multiplier or Fast Multiplier is implemented using only Combinational Logic. In Fast Multiplier, all the partial products are added together simultaneously. But in Fast Multiplier as the number of bits increases, the size and complexity also increases.

To reduce the size and complexity, in some applications (where speed is not much of a concern), the Serial Binary Multipliers are used.
The Serial Binary Multiplier is a sequential circuit, which multipliers the two binary numbers. In Serial Binary Multiplier, the partial products are added with each other sequentially. Here, partial products are added sequentially using the add and shift method.

In this video, how Add and Shift Operation is performed during the multiplication is explained using examples and at the later part of video, the hardware implementation of this serial Binary Multiplier is explained using simulation.
