Today’s Pakistan military news is that Pakistan is going to buy T 129 attack helicopters from Turkey. Pakistan for last few years was evaluating light to medium attack helicopters for its army. For this purpose it evaluated Chinese Z 10 attack helicopter and also evaluated T 129 ATAK attack helicopter of Turkey. Pakistan found that T 129 ATAK attack helicopter fulfills Pakistan army requirements .Pakistan army tested this attack helicopter in hot climate in Sindh where it was flown at 50C, then it was also flown in mountainous areas at 14,000 ft and also it’s endurance and range test was conducted by flying it from Quetta to Multan at a distance of 480 Km. Pakistan army concluded that T 129 attack helicopter passed all these tests.

Pakistan army also evaluated Z 10 attack helicopter before but rejected Chinese Z 10 attack helicopter because it’s engine doesnot support it in attack configuration with maximum payload. T 129 attack helicopter has American engine fitted in it and contains western avionics which is much superior to Chinese Z-10 engine and avionics.

Currently Cobra gunship helicopters are serving as frontline Pakistan attack helicopter. They have completed their lives and need to be replaced. Pakistan is also negotiating with Turkey to manufacture T 129 helicopters parts in Pakistan aeronautical Complex(PAC), Kamra and also trying that it is also assembled in Pakistan. If Pakistan succeeds in this then this project will become very cost effective for Pakistan.

With the induction of this helicopter Pakistan army power will increase and its fight against terrorism will gain strengthen . Pakistan army aviation is playing an important role in war on terrorism going on for last 14 years.

T 129 attack helicopter will increase Pakistan military power as a whole because all three armed forces naming army ,airforce and navy are interested in acquiring T129 ATAK attack helicopter. Pakistan army has been using cobra gunship attack helicopters since 1984 and now they have completed their lives.Pakistan army is also looking for other options for its attack helicopters. Pakistan army rejected Chinese Z 10 attack helicopter because its engine does not provide proper support to helicopter in different configurations.

This project in future can help Pakistan develop its own attack helicopter if there is technology transfer between two countries. Pakistan military strength can only increase in real sense if they started making defence equipment in their own country.
