In this extremely rare footage (previously uploaded in Black & White by famed piano virtuoso & composer Jack Gibbons), a 32-year-old George Gershwin performs a variation of 'I Got Rhythm' at the Grand Opening of New York's Manhattan Theatre on August 5, 1931. Gershwin would die just 6 years later from a brain tumor.

This incredible colorization of the original footage brings to life a whole new aspect of Gershwin that has never before been seen.

I was inspired to play piano as a child by Gershwin, ever since I first saw the 1945 film, "Rhapsody in Blue".
