Republicans are slamming Dr Anthony Fauci for “profiting” off the pandemic after it was announced the controversial disease expert is writing a book on the COVID-19 crisis.

"Fauci never missed a paycheck while advocating that you lose yours,” Republican Dan Bishop tweeted.

“His lockdown mandates destroyed livelihoods and threatened our children's futures.

“Now he'll be profiting nicely off it.”

Dr Anthony Fauci has been criticised for his handling of the pandemic with Republicans calling for his role as the White House Chief Medical Adviser to be revoked.

He has been accused of flip flopping on the mask mandate as well as dismissing the theory coronavirus could have originated from a Chinese laboratory.

It comes after controversial New York Governor Andrew Cuomo also signed a book deal on his "heroic" handling of the pandemic despite numerous scandals under his leadership.

Dr Fauci has not revealed the exact figure he will make from the book, however he is currently the highest paid federal employee in the country, earning more money than President Biden.
