Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay (15 September 1876 – 16 January 1938) was a prominent Bengali writer and novelist. He was one of the most prominent literary figures of Bengali literature in the 20th century. His novels and stories are known for their realistic portrayal of the lives of the common people of Bengal, with a focus on social issues such as poverty, oppression, and gender inequality. Some of his most famous works include Devdas, Parineeta, and Shrikanto. His works have been widely adapted into films and plays in Bengali, Hindi and other Indian languages.
