She doesn't tie her hair up
though long hair's not very safe
when there's dead people groping
and reaching out for you
She won't cut it off
she likes to think they have enough sense left
to know they got their ass kicked by a girl

She was never a fighter,
but then nothing resembles before
she was fashioned like clay
by the cold clammy dead hands of fate

She owes so much to the ones who took
some time to teach her
how to fight, and where to hide,
and what it takes to stay alive

but they're all gone now,
clawed or bit or killed somehow,
and in the end, when she had to
turn their lessons back against them
she knew she would survive
