The U.S. State Department lifted a warning for U.S. citizens to shelter in place in certain parts of Mexico after widespread violence broke out in the country on Sunday.

The order was originally issued after the Mexican army killed the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho." The cartel is known for trafficking huge quantities of fentanyl and other drugs to the United States.

Airports in both Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara, which experienced disruptions due to the violence, have since been secured with flights resuming normal operations, officials said in a social media post. Officials advised residents with cancelled flights to consider booking a connecting flight through another Mexican or U.S. city.

Officials also said that public transportation and businesses are returning to normal operations in the area.
