Are you feeding your dog the right amount of calories? 🤔
Most pet parents guess how much food their dog needs… and often end up overfeeding (causing obesity) or underfeeding (causing weakness & poor growth). Let’s make it simple 👇
For a 20kg adult, non-neutered dog:

Resting Energy Requirement (RER) → ~660 kcal/day
(This is the energy needed if the dog just rests all day).

Maintenance Energy Requirement (MER) → ~1200 kcal/day
(This is what the dog actually needs daily to stay healthy, active & fit).

👉 So, if your 20kg dog eats much less than this, it may lack energy & nutrition. If it eats much more, it may slowly gain unhealthy weight.
⚠️ But remember – calorie needs are not the same for every dog:
✔️ Active/working dogs → may need 2–3 times more.
✔️ Lazy/obese dogs → may need less (~900 kcal/day).
✔️ Puppies, pregnant & lactating mothers → need a lot more calories to stay healthy.
💡 Always balance these calories with good protein, healthy fats & digestible carbs. It’s not just about numbers, but the quality of food too!
