Today, I’ll be changing the air filter on this 2003 Ford Taurus. Here’s what we’ll do:
[Hood open]
• First, locate your air filter housing. It will usually look like a black plastic box. In this case, it’s right here next to the battery.
• There are typically just a couple of clips or screws to disengage or remove, and once that’s done, just remove the cover to expose the filter. Be careful not to dislodge any hoses or stretch any wiring when you do this.
• Remove the old filter carefully. Pay attention to the orientation of the filter as it comes out of the housing—a lot of newer filters have unique shapes and can be frustrating to install if they aren’t oriented the right way.
• If you have excessive dirt or debris inside the compartment, you might want to vacuum it out before installing the new filter.
• Put the new filter in place, and make sure the outer seal is seated properly before closing the cover.
• Close the cover and replace the clips or screws.
