"BacTools: A Catalog of Software Tools for Bacterial Data Analysis"

Abstract

Advances in sequencing technologies and bioinformatics have led to rapid growth in the number and diversity of software tools for bacterial data analysis. These tools span multiple platforms and repositories, including CRAN, Bioconductor, and GitHub, and address a wide range of analytical needs—from genome assembly and annotation to phylogenetic inference and antimicrobial resistance detection. However, the proliferation of such tools has also created a challenge: researchers often face difficulty identifying, comparing, and selecting the most appropriate tools for their specific applications. To address this gap, BacTools was developed as a curated catalog of publicly available bacterial analysis software. By centralizing information and providing an accessible interface, BacTools aims to streamline tool discovery, reduce redundancy, and support reproducible research in bacterial genomics. Contributions from the research community are encouraged to ensure the catalog remains comprehensive, current, and relevant.
