WHAT HAPPENED
It was supposed to be a relatively simple 4-way jump with gripped exits. One of the skydivers had his pilot chute halfway out of the BOC (bottom of container) and ended up having a premature opening. The diver navigated away from jump run for a few minutes and landed safely last after the tandems.

WHY DID IT HAPPEN
Unfortunately there are no videos from inside the plane because it was full of tandems and nobody saw the pilot chute. As an instructor I clearly asked all jumpers to check their gears before exit, but we didn't have a cross check. The 3 most experienced jumpers were outside the plane (camera, me and Nath). The camera flyer realized the danger very quickly and from the video we can see he didn't brush against the door. The skydiver has a relatively old gear but the elasticity of the BOC was checked and it was fine.

HOW COULD IT BE PREVENTED

Gear checks! If there's something you learn from watching Friday Freakout videos is, ALWAYS check your gear, SPECIALLY B4 a big exit.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
The least experienced skydiver in this jump had at least 100 jumps. I am a recent AFF instructor and Nath also has more than 500 jumps. The guy who had the premature was briefed afterwards and even jumped again the next day.
