When a bike tyre is inflated using a hand pump work is done on the gas.  Explain why this leads to an increase in temperature. Use kinetic theory to explain why the tyre is harder to depress when at a higher pressure.
Bonus Ideas:  Both the pressure and volume increase, explain why this is not a contradiction of Boyle’s Law.  
A Level Idea:  From first principles derive an equation which shows that Temperature is proportional to the average kinetic energy of the particles.
