What is Cyberpunk? - The Origin of the SciFi Subgenre - Science Fiction, Expressionism and Film Noir

Описание к видео What is Cyberpunk? - The Origin of the SciFi Subgenre - Science Fiction, Expressionism and Film Noir

Today we look into the origins of Cyberpunk (mostly the film perspective). Science Fictions, (German) Expressionism, Film Noir. A special focus will be Metropolis, M, The Third Man + The Maltese Falcon, Métal hurlant aka Heavy Metal, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", Blade Runner, and Neuromancer. The complexity of this topic is vast and I could only scratch the surface of this SciFi subgenre. I hope you still enjoy it.

I focus more on the film site of things. Shout outs to Akira, Ghost in the Shell and The Matrix

There will be mistakes too.

► Mistakes:
-
In the introduction section there's a "to explain" too much, no idea why I didn't notice 😅 There are some more little language mistakes like that.

- Tom Maddox is most likely the origin of the term Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics (ICE), however William Gibson made it popular in his books. As far as I could find out, the term is from an unpublished script and according to a statement of Maddox he showed the script to Gibson, who wanted to use it and asked for permission, which was granted by Maddox, quote:

"Maddox is the originator of the term Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics (or ICE). According to Maddox, he coined the term in the manuscript of an unpublished story that he showed to Gibson at a science fiction convention in Portland, Oregon. Gibson asked permission to use the acronym, and Maddox agreed. The term was then used in Gibson’s early short stories and eventually popularized in the novel Neuromancer, in which Maddox was properly acknowledged. " - https://www.epubbooks.com/author/tom-...
