The Friends of the Chair for National Implementation Measures, together with UNIDIR and UNODA, organized an informal webinar in the context of the Working Group on the Strengthening of the Biological Weapons Convention.

The event aimed to stimulate thinking and discussion on the topic of national implementation during the intersessional period and consisted of an expert panel followed by a moderated question-and-answer session with the audience.

• Amb. Flávio Damico, Chair of the BWC Working Group – Opening Remarks.
• Sonia Drobysz, Senior Researcher, UNIDIR – The national implementation of the BWC: taking stock and looking forward.
• James Pettit Legal Officer, UNODA – Insights from national and regional activities in support of the effective implementation of the BWC in Africa.
• Janes Mokgadi, Deputy Director, Chemical, Biological, Nuclear and Radiological Weapon Management Authority of Botswana – National experience: establishing the National Authority to implement the BWC.
• María Garzón Maceda, CBW Project Coordinator, UNIDIR – Resources to support national implementation: the UNIDIR-VERTIC NIM Database resource.
• Friends of the Chair on NIM: Australia, Indonesia, Panama, Thailand – Closing remarks: looking ahead to informal consultations and the Working Group discussion.

The event was moderated by James Revill, Head of WMD Programme, UNIDIR.
