In April 2023, a recording of the Beatles playing at Stowe school was rediscovered and was eventually released to the public.

This incredible performance on April 4, 1963, was special because it was the Beatles on the rise playing in a small venue for a bunch of high school kids, many of whom had purchased their first album and were uniquely already familiar with so many of the songs on the album, even shouting out requests that the Beatles fulfilled.

The Beatles played for about an hour, and included many of their old covers from the Cavern Club and from their Hamburg days. They also played most of the “Please Please Me” album as well as “From Me to You” and “Thank You Girl”, which had not yet even been released!

For these reasons and others, it makes it a most special performance, especially with the recording just having been discovered so recently.

Although the recording was a bit primitive and not well mixed, one can still imagine being there and witnessing an incredible transitional moment in the Beatles career.

Much more information about this performance as well as recording can be found on YouTube. Just search “Beatles Stowe School”.

It kind of has become my favorite moment in Beatles history.
