Noel Tata was appointed as the Chairman of Tata Trusts on October 11, succeeding his half-brother Ratan Tata, who died on October 9 at the age of 86. The appointment was made during a meeting held in Mumbai and was unanimously agreed upon by the board of Tata Trusts.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday garlanded a bust of socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan mounted atop a vehicle outside his home after he and hundreds of protesters were advised against visiting the Jayaprakash Narayan International Centre (JPNIC) due to security concerns. Akhilesh Yadav visited the JPNIC on 10 Oct night, a day before the birth anniversary of Jayaprakash Narayan, and alleged the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh installed tin sheets in front of JPNIC's main gate apparently to prevent his entry.

After its stunning defeat in Haryana, Congress's central leadership held its meeting analyzing the reasons behind the party's dismal performance in the state. After the meeting, the senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP KC Venugopal said that the party analysed the reasons that led to its defeat in the agriculture-dominated state.
Speaking to the media, another party leader, Ajay Maken said, "Results are surprising and unexpected. Today we met and looked into the reasons that led to defeat in Haryana. We will continue our analysis.
