On modern myths and the power of images
The meeting between US President Richard Nixon and Chinese leader Mao Tse-Tung in 1972, fuelled by geo-strategic opportunism, was staged as a political-theatrical media event.

The opera NIXON IN CHINA meticulously follows the visit´s protocol of the visit and thus exposes the absurdities of the events. The minimal music composition by John Adams develops a hypnotic, suggestive sound pull. Together with conductor Daniel Carter, the young directors' collective Hauen und Stechen is now presenting the work for the first time on a Berlin stage.

We look forward the premiere on 22 Jun with follow-up performances on 28 Jun and 4/10/12 Jul 2024.
