We're on Mt Pender, part of the Jurassic expanse that is Fiordland National Park. It’s a land full of beautiful mountains, icebergs sitting in emerald lakes, ice-carved fiords and primeval forest. Much of this vast wilderness is off-limits to the average sightseer simply because Mother Nature has created formidable obstacles. This remote landscape sits behind the mighty Southern Alps with almost no roads in or out. Because of that, the vast majority of bush has only ever been walked on by the likes of moa and takahē. It seems fitting our best landscape is off-limits to the masses.
