Bregenzerwald has traditionally innovative architecture.

On our first day in #Bregenzerwald we could already tell that the region was different.

The community embraces tradition and local innovation in a brilliant way.

They embrace the traditional architecture of wooden houses where walls are covered with wooden tiles, which makes it look a bit like wooden fish skin. Very cute!
We found many beautiful examples in #Schwarzenberg. 😍

Modern houses and even industry follow this look but add a modern touch to it which gives the region its distinctive look. 👊😎

Another example of thinking out of the box we found in #Krumbach where they have 7 really original bus stops designed by 7 internationally renowned architects.

Here's a fun fact about that: Since the town with only 1000 inhabitants has limited financial resources they offered to pay the architects with a free week long holiday for two and the material and constructing of the bus stops was donated by local craftsmen.

When a community comes together it can really move mountains. 😉

Community support for local craftsmanship is clearly important here and that translates in WeWerkraum Bregenzerwaldn #Andelsbuch. It's an organization that unites 100 local craftsmen and puts their work on display in an impressive contemporary building with a shop and exhibitions.

How cool is that!

We ended our day with a cake and coffee at the cute Bär Cafe in #Mellau.
